Fleet Manager health reporting for delegated devices is driven by Mimir telemetry, not by deployment mode. The health-status agent does not receive Metal Managed or Metal Self-Managed context; it queries Mimir for device health metrics and applies the same missing-data behaviour for every device:
  • Metric value 0: health_status=healthy
  • Metric value greater than 0: health_status=degraded
  • Missing, negative, or invalid metric: health_status=unknown

Deployment Behaviour

Operator Notes

For a Metal Managed device, delegated means Fleet Manager lifecycle agents stand down, but health can still update while read-only BMC telemetry is present in Mimir. For a Metal Self-Managed device, health_status=unknown is expected while the device is delegated. Fleet Manager has no BMC visibility until the device is reclaimed, so absence from the Mimir query is not by itself a health-agent fault. If the device still appears in the Mimir query, Fleet Manager will report that metric because the health agent has no deployment-mode override. If a delegated Metal Managed device unexpectedly reports unknown, first check whether the device appears in the configured Mimir query and whether the health metric contains the configured device label.
